Earlier last month, Nokia CEO had confirmed that Nokia has begun work on Windows Phone 7 devices. Following the billion dollar partnership between Nokia and Microsoft, the former is now going to include Windows Phone 7 as its primary smartphone platform across all its future devices and we’ve yet to see at least one such device. Well, word is that Nokia may be prepping up at least four WP7 devices for launch with as many as 12 devices being slated for release in 2012.

The claims originate from a well known website called mobile-review, which is not only famous for the in-depth reviews it does of cellphones, but for its accurate Nokia information as well. They say that initially, Nokia will release only four devices which will run Windows Phone 7.5 and might be released in late 2011 or early 2012. The greater number of devices have been slated for a mid or late 2012 release.

Whereas we know that Microsoft is going to reveal a totally new hardware specification for Windows Phone 7.5. Nokia is popular in the market for the fact that it offers devices which are not that expensive, or in this case, Nokia is expected to release its Windows Phone devices at a cost relatively lower than what conventional Windows Phone devices are being sold for as of now. So word is that Nokia is working alongside Microsoft in order to create cheaper Windows Phone devices for the large percentage of the market it caters to.
The site has also given an insight about what might be the first Windows Phone 7.5 device we see from Nokia. The device is said to be a rendition of the Nokia X7 touting a Qualcomm QSD8250 chipset, WVGA display and a 8 megapixel camera. As previously mentioned, its release is expected either by the end of 2011 or in the start of 2012.
The remaining Nokia Windows Phone devices will include a candy-bar style phone with a full touchscreen QWERTY keyboard, a rendition of N8 with a dual-core processor and a 12 megapixel camera and a full touchscreen device made out of cheap parts. The 8 other devices also said to be releasing in 2012, are said to be in consideration as of now.
Do you think Nokia’s Windows Phone 7 devices have any sort of potential in the market? Well at least it is going to put Microsoft’s platform in the hands of the general populace, making this a win-win situation for Microsoft.
