Work On First Nokia Windows Phone Devices Already Under Way

Following the billion dollar partnership between Nokia and Microsoft, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has confirmed that the company has started work on Nokia’s very first Windows Phone devices.

Stephen Elop said:
We’re right now, today, having people work on the first Windows Phone devices from Nokia. That work is already under way

Apart from this, Nokia CEO brushed aside rumours of Microsoft buying Nokia. For that, he said:
I’m not aware of a strategic interest that Microsoft would have in the rest of the business. To the extent that a partnership has been formed around what they’re really interested in, then what would an acquisition bring other than a good year of anti-trust investigation, huge turmoil, delays?


There remains no doubt that Windows Phone is going to be the primary platform upon which all future Nokia smartphones are going to function. However, that won’t happen overnight. Nokia states that it may take up to two years, for Nokia to completely make the shift to Windows Phone as its primary smartphone platform.

Nokia is said to be engineering Windows Phone devices at the moment, but plans to release them once “Mango” is released. “Mango” is said to be the codename for Windows Phone 7.5, which is currently in early beta stages.

Also, it looks like Nokia is waiting for the impending Windows Phone 7 updates to roll out, before it ultimately releases its Windows Phone based smartphones. In this year alone, Microsoft is going to roll out two updates for Windows Phone 7. One of which has already been released, but is actually a preparatory update for the first Windows Phone 7 update due to release in a couple of months, which shall bring IE9 and multitasking to WP7 devices.
